Part 5: Roots
In order to infiltrate the secret power cabal, 00D had to go undercover. That meant no support crew, no luxurious motorhome, in fact he even had to surrender his SuperFly in favour of his Giant hardtail - which 00D suspected may be a better bike for the course anyway. Fortunately, many of the TriHards came from the Parkes region, including Engine - whose generous family provided five-star accommodation - including meals, for the trip. Engine himself had also entered the 50km version of the race, which meant he could easily blend in, as well as support 00D in his efforts. Having passed his 00 trials a few years prior, Engine was qualified to join 00D in the 100km version, however in recent times his focus had been on orienteering, so this event would be his unofficial R n R.
So it was that the small TriHards team blended in with the locals on Saturday night; carb-loading with icey-cold beers, before dining on a sumptuous feast of roasted lemon chicken, with fried rice and vegetables. Then it was onto long, interesting conversations which had nothing to do with riding, racing, or generating your own power. Though, there was much talk of fresh produce: growing your own, and getting your food directly from the farmer; 00D pondered for a moment whether or not the TriHards would consider this treachery too - after all, would it not be putting the bonuses of Wesfarmer and Woolworths executives at risk? These thoughts, however, were soon buried under homemade chocolate eclairs, cooked with their own fresh eggs.
Bursting at the seams, 00D retired for the night; fully fuelled and ready for the ride!
